Who the Africa Twin suits
On paper, the standard Africa Twin is aimed at riders who want a big-twin adventure bike that leans toward off-road use: 21/18-inch wire-spoked wheels, 9.1 inches of front travel and a narrow seat, according to Honda. Honda lists cornering ABS controlled by a six-axis IMU, six riding modes, Honda Selectable Torque Control, cruise control, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a 6.5-inch touchscreen as standard. The 34.3-inch standard seat is tall, so read our seat height guide, and our adventure vs dual sport vs enduro explainer if you’re still choosing a category.
Strengths and trade-offs (from the spec sheet)
- Long travel and off-road wheel sizes. Honda says the 9.1 inches of front travel is the most in the 1000cc ADV class.
- Two seat heights. 34.3 or 33.5 inches, still taller than many road bikes.
- DCT option. An automatic dual-clutch version is listed for $800 more.
- Weight. 510 pounds curb is about 50 pounds more than the Ténéré 700’s published wet weight.
- No published power figure in the US specifications.
