Who the 390 Adventure R suits
On paper, this is a light, tall, small-capacity adventure bike for riders who want to go off-road without the weight of a 650cc or larger machine. KTM itself calls it the most off-road capable middleweight adventure bike in its segment; that’s the manufacturer’s claim, not our test. The 870 mm (about 34.3 in) seat is tall for a small bike, so read our seat height guide, and see the adventure vs dual sport vs enduro explainer to check the category fits how you ride.
Strengths and trade-offs (from the spec sheet)
- Light. 176 kg fully fueled.
- Long, adjustable suspension. 230 mm of travel at both ends, with clicker adjustment.
- Ground clearance. 272 mm.
- Small tank. About 3.7 US gal, much less than the KLR650’s 6.1 gal.
- Tall seat for the engine size.
